Mesquite Texas Heat Blast

Mesquite Texas Heat Blast

freeThe summer of 2015 promises to be one of the hottest on record for residents in Mesquite Texas. This year there are some things that you can do help beat the heat and it all begins with some simple maintenance to your air conditioning system.

Don’t wait until you turn your thermostat down only to discover that your air conditioning is not working. At Mathis Air & Heat we would like to share some preventative maintenance tips that can help you save on costly repairs down the line.

Change Your Filters

One of the biggest problems that we find in residential service calls is dirty air filters. When the air filters located in the registers are clogged they occlude airflow and put undue stress on your equipment. It also allows for dust and dirt to be recycled back into your home. This is one of the biggest problems with the most simple solution. We recommend replacing your air filters once every few months or as you notice a build up.

Clean Your Air Conditioning Coils

Often times the coils on your outside unit can become occluded and not work efficiently due to leaves and other debris. Always use caution when performing any service to any appliance or air conditioning unit where electricity is involved. If in doubt contact a professional. If you are comfortable working on things yourself, be sure to disengage your electricity before cleaning your unit.

You will need to remove the covering of the unit, being careful not to disconnect any wiring, and you can use a special brush for the gills on your AC Unit. You will want to be careful not to bend them as they are quite delicate. In some instances a water hose with a pressure nozzle can be used to get rid of heavy dirt and dust that the brush will not remove. Use caution not to spray any electrical components. If you inadvertently bend any of the gills, there is a special gill comb that you can pick up that will help you straighten them out.

Remove Debris From The Bottom

Down at the bottom of the unit you may see some debris such as leaves and dirt. You will want to scoop any debris out and make sure that the drain opening is free of dirt so that water can escape the unit.
